For a dwarf, however, talking about hair is very taboo, something you only discuss with family or a close lover. Cutting a dwarf's hair communicates great grief or unspeakable shame. That's why the Company are in despair when Bilbo keeps cutting his beautiful hair. They can't figure out why, when they've told him countless times his past doesn't matter to them...
