    Summary

“I told you. Hollander and I, we are in love. He is my hockey player.” Ilya wiggled his eyebrows at the joke, but couldn’t keep himself from watching Scott Hunter.
“Sure, Roz. You and Hollander are in love, want to get married, spend the rest of your lives playing hockey together.” When Ilya didn’t immediately reply to that very accurate statement, Hunter continued: “If you two are in love, I’m straight. That’s how likely that is.” He had laughed and skated away, though Ilya really hadn’t understood what was supposed to be funny about that.
Standing alone on the ice, the crowd slowly filing out of the rink, Ilya was faced with a startling realization: telling people may be harder than he thought.
    or
What if Shane gave Ilya permission to soft launch their relationship. Ilya is, of course, thrilled and immediately starts telling everyone around him. Problem is, no one believes him!

Ilya loved Shane, dearly. He would cut off his left arm for Shane. He would not “just tell Scott Hunter” for Shane.

    Summary

After the tuna melt meltdown, Shane meets Rose Landry, has several deeply inconvenient revelations, and decides to do the only sensible thing: win Ilya back with sincerity, logistics, and a frankly alarming amount of emotional effort.

Ilya, meanwhile, mistakes every tender gesture for the kind prelude to an inevitable goodbye.

Or: Shane is living in a romcom. Ilya is living in a Russian tragedy.

Either way, the result is that Shane Hollander is buttoning a black jacket over a dark shirt and trying not to grin like an idiot because Ilya Rozanov has, over the last month, started feeling less like a beautiful ongoing emergency and more like someone Shane might actually get to keep.

    Summary

Rozanov is looking at him intensely, mouth pursed in a smirk, eyes alight. “You eat dinner?”

    “What?”

“Dinner,” Rozanov says, “Is meal you eat in evening. You have it?”

“You’re asking me if I eat dinner?”

Rozanov tilts his head. “My English is not so bad, I think.”

“No, it isn’t,” Shane says, although he’s still confused by Rozanov’s question. After a beat, where all he can focus on is Rozanov’s thick eyebrows, Shane confirms: “Yes, of course I eat dinner.”

“Good. Me too.” Rozanov is still smirking. Shane’s starting to think it might be his default expression. “We have that in common: playing hockey and eating dinner.”

Or: five times Ilya Rozanov tried to ask out Shane Hollander, and the one time he succeeded.

    Summary

Shane heard himself say the words from a distance, as if he was standing somewhere on the other side of the room.

“I’ve been sleeping with him since we were nineteen and I think I’m in love with him.”

    ---

Shane never ran off the night of the tuna melt, but the boys still failed to have an honest conversation about any of it. Instead, they trip and fall into a whole new level of maybe-accidentally-dating situationship hell. Shane needs to confess his feelings and define the relationship.

He probably shouldn't have done it... there.

“I’m sorry, I really shouldn’t have said that in the middle of a game,” Shane said, not actually feeling all that sorry and still riding the high of being a boyfriend who was loved.

    Bookmarker's Notes

In retrospect, he can admit that 26-year-old closet case Shane was kind of a lunatic.
