Summary
Anne Shirley has trouble navigating her own thoughts most days, so she's hesitant at best about sharing them with somebody else. Nevertheless, she's promised herself (and Cole) to show up to at least one single group therapy session held at the office building near her work.
However, when a certain dark-haired, hazel-eyed med student from her past shows up to a meeting unannounced, Anne refuses to break.
She knows from experience; it takes a long time to pick up the pieces he leaves behind.

Summary
They sort of become a family, her and Jerry and Ruby and Gilbert (after she forgave him for the thing they don’t speak about), and they were annoying little shits who ate all her food and trashed her apartment, but... she was happy. It was a slow realization, one that didn’t really strike her until she was sitting on the floor in her pajamas, watching Ruby smack Jerry repeatedly after catching the boy stealing her Monopoly money as Gilbert rolled around in tears clutching his stomach.
Her cheeks were sore later from the sheer force of her smile.

Gilbert grinned at her bold statement, leaning inwards a fraction more. He was so close that if either of them moved anymore, their lips would be touching. Anne wished that he would close the gap between them so she could discover if his lips really were as soft as they appeared to be. To her simultaneous disappointment and delight, Gilbert didn’t kiss her, but instead he posed a question of his own in response to hers.
