    After the "fight to the death" on Vulcan, Doctor McCoy beams to the ship with Captain Kirk's limp body. How does Jim react after coming to? How does Spock react after returning to the ship knowing that the captain's blood is on his hands? Doctor McCoy has managed to pull the fat out of the Vulcan fire, but now it seems that things between Jim and Spock are suddenly more complex. And what's this about what happened even before Vulcan in Spock's quarters?

    This is a rewrite of the ludicrous ending of "Amok Time", starting immediately after the events on Vulcan. Me thinks, perhaps more angst is appropriate, topped with a much less hokey (nevertheless heartfelt) ending.

    Der Erste Kontakt mit den Ketrani vor 2 Jahren war misslungen – durch Fehler, die das Team damals machte. Aber was machten sie nur falsch? Der Sternenflotte wurde vorgeworfen, aus arroganten Angebern zu bestehen, die zuerst handeln und dann Fragen stellen. Kirk bekommt den Auftrag, das wieder einzurenken. Zu seinem Missfallen sollen 4 ketranische Zivilisten auf der Enterprise mitreisen, um zu beweisen, dass das nur ein Ausrutscher war und der Kontakt zur Förderation etwas Wünschenswertes ist. Am Anfang läuft alles einigermaßen gut, aber dann…taucht ein Piratenschiff auf. Kirk wird als Geisel genommen und gerät in Lebensgefahr. Die Forderung der Piraten: Dilithium-Kristalle. Die Crew tut alles, um den Captain zu retten…
