Summary
The Thunderbolts knew about Sam, in a way. Somewhat. They knew, of course, that he and Bucky were friends, but not of their relationship. They knew that things had been complicated, with the argument over the Avengers title.
Suffice to say, his teammates did not know that whenever Bucky left the tower, it was either to drive four hours to D.C. or to return to his (and Sam’s, at this point) Brooklyn apartment: the apartment that had two toothbrushes on the bathroom counter, an I LOVE CAPTAIN AMERICA mug in the kitchen sink, and a frankly impressive collection of vintage R&B vinyls.
And Bucky wanted to keep it that way.

He heard Sam’s steps approach him, then felt arms gently slink around his waist from behind, and he smiled a little. Sam hummed, leaning up to brush a kiss to his temple.
“I take it none of this blood is yours?” he said by way of greeting, his voice low.
Bucky bit his lip. “Some of it,” he admitted, and turned around.
Sam sucked in a sharp breath. “Jesus, Buck,” he breathed, his concerned gaze flickering over Bucky’s face. “You alright?”
Shrugging, Bucky averted his eyes. “Bruised and battered ‘s all, sweetheart.”

“Yeah,” he mumbled, staring into Sam’s eyes like there was nowhere else he'd rather look.

Summary
Things have never been more tense between Bucky and Sam, and definitely not in a good way. The future of their relationship and the certainty of their roles all comes crumbling down when Valentina makes that fateful announcement after the Void incident. Sam is torn, blaming himself and hurt by the way Bucky betrayed him. Bucky is lost, afraid of who he's supposed to be without Sam and with no answers on how to fix the mess he made.
But between old friends and new, things are never what they truly seem.

So it's not like Sam is charting this moon shit. At least, not at first. See it goes like this - full moon Steve's horny as shit, new moon he's a ragey little bitch, the waning cycles are emotional, and the waxing he is just his normal sassy self. Without even looking back at records, Sam knows now that he met Steve during a waxing crescent and the Winter Soldier reared his messy head during waning gibbous.
