“Maybe you could also try getting laid,” Lance continues, as if he’d noticed the tension in the air as well. He must’ve – there’s no way he hadn’t. The air is thick enough to choke them both.
“Oh, yeah, because everyone’s just lining up to get me to sleep with them,” Keith answers, heavy on the sarcasm. He’s hoping for a rebuttal, for a ‘well, I am’, for something to latch on to.
“Can’t be too hard for you to find someone with the way you look, man.” Lance vaguely gestures at him. “You just gotta open your eyes.”
or: Keith struggles with leading. Lance struggles with his sexuality. Hooking up solves none of those problems.

“Never have I ever fucked my best friend’s brother,” Pidge deadpans, looking — for some unclear reason — directly at Keith.
That reason becomes clear when Keith and Matt both take a drink, refusing to look at one another.
Lance picks his jaw up off the floor and looks around their circle to find Hunk and Allura appearing similarly gobsmacked. Shiro pulls a face and punches Matt lightly on the arm, but it doesn’t seem like this is new information to him.
“Hang on—” Lance coughs. “When the hell did that happen?”

Lance’s posture has gone from somewhat respectable to bad to worse, and his attention span is slowly but surely reaching its breaking point, when the door in the back of the room slides open.
Blue and gray and black. Long, dark hair. A familiar set of eyes. The same faded scar carved along his cheek.
Lance jerks upright, nearly jumping out of his chair.
“I’m filling in for Kolivan.”
The words strike right through Lance’s sternum. And he didn’t even have his defenses up. He didn’t have time to prepare.
Although somewhere deep down, he knows that no time in the world could’ve prepared him for seeing Keith again.
or: Being stuck with his ex at a diplomatic conference for a solid month is super cool and very fun. Because Lance is over him. Obviously. He so is.

“Shit,” Lance breathes. “This is so freaky.”
Keith can hear the laugh in his voice, trying to wrap his mind around how he could possibly find humor in a moment like this. His muscles are taut with anxiety, and Lance still manages to crack a joke.
“Right?” the other Lance agrees. “Two of us, ha.”
“Enough,” Keith finally cuts in. “There’s about to be only one of you if you don’t start talking soon.”
“Jeez, you’re intense,” the other Lance says to his Keith, eyes crinkling softly at the corners. “Would hate to get on your bad side.”
or: When Lance and Keith meet their counterparts from a different universe, it’s fun, mostly.
When they later find out that their counterparts are dating and very much in love, it’s, well, less fun.

Summary
Three years after saving the universe and getting his happy ending, Keith still hasn’t gotten any better. Despite promising Lance that he’d open up eventually, he wasn’t able to break patterns of avoidance that had their relationship hitting a brick wall, and the final straw was accidentally saying Shiro’s name during sex.
So they’re on a break. In his desperation to fix things with Lance, Keith asks Matt to help him get over his unwanted sexual fixation on Shiro through any means necessary. Armed with a mad scientist ego and Lance’s enthusiastic permission, Matt uses talk therapy and BDSM to help Keith unpack his emotional dysregulation and attachment issues, while in turn teaching Lance to Dom Keith and fulfill some repressed kinks.
But the war has had its toll on everyone. Matt and Shiro are having their own relationship problems, and Lance isn't doing too hot either. It’s up to all four of them to learn how to grow and communicate before their attempts at triage do more harm than good.
