An automatic voice warned everyone to stand clear of the doors. A few moments later, the car sealed, and the train began to move. There would be another two stops within the next ten minutes before they descended into a tunnel beneath the river, then half a dozen towns before the end of the line. The girl Evan liked to watch always disembarked at the first stop outside the city limits; his came very last, most of an hour later.
