Summary
“Will Byers?”
Will glances around, as if there is another Will Byers in their vicinity. He manages a small smile. “Yeah, it’s- uh. It’s me.”
Mike rushes forward, and all he can think is holy shit, Will is alive, as he’s throwing his arms around the other boy and tugging him in for a crushing hug. It isn’t until Will is secure, nestled–maybe a bit stiffly–in his arms, that Mike starts crying.
“I thought you were dead,” Mike murmurs, muffled by Will’s jacket. He sniffles. “I thought- we- they told us you were dead.”
Or, Will was never found in S1, but survives in the Upside Down until 1987 due to his powers and connection with Vecna. Cue Mike, an ill-timed trip to the Upside Down, and a lot of feelings.

Summary
“Will, I mean in this in the most platonic way, but,” Max begins. “You got, like, hot.”
Will flushes before her eyes. He turns bright red at record speed.
“I- what? No, I didn’t!”
Across the room, Mike snorts.
Or, Max hasn’t seen Will since the summer of ‘85. Despite Lucas going on about how he’s a sorcerer now, nothing could’ve prepared her for Will Byers, two years older and about half a foot taller. Surrounded by changes, the one thing that remains consistent is the way Mike Wheeler looks at Will like a lovesick idiot.

Summary
It’s an envelope. A letter, for that matter, nearly identical to the one Miguel just tugged out of his backpack.
It’s a letter that Eli swore would never see the existence of a world outside of his bedroom. It’s a letter that certainly should not be in Demetri’s hand.
Shit.
Or the to all the boys I've loved before au wherein Eli used to write love letters to his crushes before he ever joined Cobra Kai, and they accidentally get mailed out.

Summary
“What are you doing here?” Demetri finally manages. His voice sounds a little strangled, but the question comes out bluntly and a bit harsh.
“Uh,” Eli starts, glancing around, and letting out a confused laugh. “Getting coffee? What are you doing here?” he teases.
Demetri really doesn’t have time for this. He rolls his eyes. “Not here. What are you doing in Boston?” he demands.
Eli’s playful expression falls. He furrows his eyebrows. “I live here.”
Or the December 19th house fight never happened, Demetri and Eli never made up in high school, and they meet again in college in the most romantic city in the world… Boston.

“How do you wanna go out?” Eli blurts out.
Demetri quirks an eyebrow. He glances around the hallway. “Um. Through the doorway?”
Eli lets out a startled laugh. “No. No. What Robby said. This is it. How do you want to go out?”
Demetri’s expression softens.
Or, the locker room apology and the scene we should’ve gotten immediately following.

It's 1992, and Mike and Will are juniors in college and living together in a tiny NYC apartment. Life is great. It's everything Mike could ever want: his best friend, an incredible city, and the world at his fingertips. The only problem? He's in love with said best friend and has no idea how he could ever tell him.
Luckily for him, he's presented with an opportunity to get much closer to him every Friday night, as long as he promises not to get all weird after. How hard could that be?
Or: Mike and Will become friends with benefits and the universe laughs because they're both ridiculously in love with each other.
