“I can’t believe the vet is dating someone like him” one of them whispered just as Yuji passed close by them heading toward the door. Yuji could literally feel half of his body going numb. “You’d expect him to be dating someone decent, not a criminal."
And the thing is, Yuji wasn’t a criminal, not at all. Quite the opposite, actually. He was a firefighter who had survived a serious fire with only some injuries as a result. But surely not everyone thought like that lady… right?
Or: Due to his work as a firefighter, Yuji returns home with two new scars on his face, but with no pain at all. Life, however, takes care of fixing that last part.

Beomgyu grins. “No, I’m not. But you are,” he says, wrapping his legs around Soobin’s waist and pulling him in closer. “But don’t worry. Noona will take good care of you.”
Soobin’s eye twitches. “I think you mean oppa will take good care of you.”
Beomgyu wrinkles his nose. “Ew, no. Hyung is way better than that.”
“You can’t say hyung. You’re a girl.” Soobin flicks Beomgyu on the forehead.
“Ow.” He narrows his eyes and attempts to bite Soobin’s finger. “Then call me noona.”
Soobin narrows his eyes until they’re both just glaring at each other. He wants to fuck Beomgyu so bad he thinks he’ll go crazy. “Whatever. I’m just calling you Beomgyu.” He pauses. “With the agreed upon knowledge that you are a girl.”
Beomgyu nods, tightening his legs. “Yes. Beomgyu, who is a girl.” He prods at Soobin’s chest. “And Soobin, who is still hyung,” he says. Beomgyu has heard of spontaneous bonds, but he’s never actually met someone who had bonded unintentionally. It sounds completely fake, like something out of a very bad movie. It shouldn’t be real. Friends might marry, but friends don’t mate.
Soobin touches his mating bite lightly, his expression twisted with surprise, as though the stinging isn’t enough proof. It feels wrong to stare at him when he’s in such a vulnerable place, but Beomgyu has already seen every inch of him. “I think… It made sense, in the moment.” His voice is unsure, unsteady. “Like it was the only thing I could reasonably do.”
Romance author Beomgyu has given up on the prospect of love—especially with Soobin, who has never had any intention of mating. A mistake at a New Year's Eve party changes everything for them.

Soobin needs a roommate. Beomgyu needs a new place to live. It makes sense for him to move in…until it doesn't.
