Everyone knows Alex loves a good list, it keeps his shit together. His notes app is full of ongoing lists, like what he needs to get at the store, emails he needs to send, and random hobbies he thinks he should pick up. He even started working lists into his life as an assistant to Henry Fox, Co-CEO and owner of Okonjo-Fox Industries.
The most current list he gave Henry, one with all his meetings and luncheons this week, is being bunched up in Alex’s hand as he gets the life railed out of him. Like, seriously he thinks he sees God standing in the doorway.

Summary
Henry usually dreads checking his email, he hates the anxiety that pools in his stomach as he dreads an email asking him to do any type of dreadful work. Henry, currently, worked in the finance department at his family's company and hated every minute of it. He hated how stiff and boring the work was, how there was no room for creativity. Even though he has found safety in neutrals, in his clothes and office decor, there’s a part of him that is itching to burst through, he wants to write beautiful prose and descriptive story lines, he wants to make people feel something, not just send them a spreadsheet and get a thumbs up in return.
One, however, catches his eye immediately.

Alex is in class when it happens. His professor is going on about different political strategies that he already knows about, when he gets the text. Seeing Henry’s name light up his screen makes his heart flutter but when he sees the content of it, his heart then drops straight to his stomach.

Alex wakes to sunlight streaming into the room. Henry is already awake, scrolling on his phone, carding a hand through Alex’s hair.
“‘Morin baby.” Alex stretches like a cat in a sun spot, curling into Henry’s warmth.

Henry rolls his eyes but he’s still smiling, “Yes well, apparently someone counted. You mentioned me 42 times across 4 different interviews last night.”

He really didn’t mean for it to be so long but after graduating with his undergrad, he immediately moved to New York to start law school, and then immediately after graduating law school, he started at Luna & Westbrook. He worked had to get to where he is but that means his family hasn’t seen him for the holidays in 4 years. Sure, his parents, Leo, and June have come to visit him in New York over the years, but holidays (like all year) are a busy time at the firm and he’s not going to move up to senior partner if he’s in Texas.
He doesn’t expect his first Christmas back to see Henry, his first love and first heartbreak, literally sitting in his kitchen.
