He sets the dress down upon the ironing board, smoothing down the skirt one last time, taking note of a section of the gathers that he thinks he’ll have to redo. He’s still considering the effort as he fidgets with the measuring tape in his hands, threading it out from around his neck as he walks toward the counter—
