Francesca ran out into the darkened street, watching on helplessly as the carriage rode off into the distance.
But as it turned a corner, she caught sight of its passenger, who locked eyes with Francesca. Michaela opened her mouth as if to say something, as if her voice could be heard over the rain hitting the pavement. But before Francesca could begin to decode the words falling from her lips, the carriage sped on behind a building and was completely out of sight.

The tree branches hiding her from the world were pushed aside and she locked eyes with the girl disturbing her silence. She rose to her feet, and found she was still shorter than the girl. “Oh. The girl blinked. “That’s a boy's name.”

This is ridiculous.
She should hang up.
She should tell Eloise and Penelope to mind the business that pays them and that she is perfectly fine without ever having had a climax—
“Hi, darling, my name is Princess—and I’ll be your playmate tonight.” The greeting comes quicker than Francesca had anticipated, her mind lingering for longer than it should on the way the operator calls her darling, “May I ask with whom do I speak?”
So focused on the sound of the phone sex operator’s voice, she misses the last question entirely. Instead, she simply blurts—
“What is a pinnacle?”
There’s a pause on the opposite end. And then, a tentatively confused voice asks, “A.. pinnacle?”
Francesca flounders for synonyms, “Yes, a pinnacle—the climax—a summit, an apex, whatever the hell they’re calling it around here I just don’t know what—”
Francesca’s nervous rambling trails off as she realizes the phone sex operator is chuckling lightly at her, “I’m sorry, I’m not laughing at you, I promise.”
“Is this your first time?”
