Jesse is tired.
He is looking up at the ceiling, the grey panels above his bunk shapeless in the dark. If he were to concentrate, he would be able to make out the tiny greaves and imperfections in them, but the effort it would take to focus seems too much at the moment.
It may be because it’s the middle of the night, and he should have been asleep by now. Hours ago, when his shift ended, all he could think about was to lay down and rest, but now, no matter how heavy his limbs were, how much his head seemed to sink on the too-thin pillow, he just... couldn't sleep.
Hadn’t been able to for days now. How many, he wasn’t sure of. But... a couple, for sure.
