Summary
Ever since Teio retired, McQueen's world felt as if it completely collapsed. It was only after the inevitable happened that she realized just how much she wanted Teio to always be by her side, and how she should have said it out loud way earlier. Maybe the regret that was swallowing her whole was her punishment for always waiting and waiting and never saying what she truly meant. It seemed only fair, she thought.
It's just... She couldn't live like that. She yearned to see her rival again, to hear her voice, to laugh with her like nothing wrong has ever happened. That's why, even though under normal circumstances she would never do it, out of desperation she found herself standing in front of Teio's house, unable to deal with her absence. She was deathly scared of facing her, but she had to do it. She doubted if she could keep on surviving without talking to her at least one more time.
She just missed Teio so damn much.
or: S2EP10 canon divergence. Twin Turbo doesn't save the day, Teio retires, and McQueen, to put it lightly, doesn't really take it well. In result, an uncomfortable conversation they both really needed happens.

Summary
Going into the last of her teenage years, Tokai Teio suddenly realized that there's a lot of different things she needs to come to terms with. She doesn't race in the Twinkle Series anymore. She's gotten a girlfriend, and a pretty amazing one at that. Her chronic condition is, most likely, getting worse. With only one of these being positive, the approaching few months before the summer comes and takes away the pain from her fragile joints do not seem to be too joyful.
But yeah, no, it's a-okay. It's not like it's her first time waking up aching all over, unable to stand on her own thanks to her legs giving out on her. It's not like it's her first time resting her knees on the mountain of pillows, and it's not like it's her first time crying out of helplessness while staring outside the window, either. She's been there many times before.
—What she didn't realize upon getting a flare-up while staying over at McQueen's place, though, is that it's her first time not going through it alone.
or: no, it's fine, Tokai Teio just didn't expect that Mejiro McQueen would be that eager to help her with her flare-up.

Summary
If you were to ask 14-years-old McQueen what happiness is, she'd probably hesitate for a moment, biting on her finger and thinking intently. Upon a moment of thought, she'd probably reply with something like winning the Spring Tenno Sho and proving herself to be a stayer worthy of the Mejiro name, or having fun while running, or even something as simple as getting to eat a nice cake once in a while, really. Well, that was a difficult question. She had many more years to think about it.
Almost eleven years later, if you were to ask her the same question, McQueen would have an answer set in stone this time. She'd tilt her head to the side and simply laugh, her eyes glittering.

Summary
Mejiro McQueen was stubborn, horribly so. But so were her legs and their weakness, and eventually the chronic injury that led to her retirement. Sometimes it even felt as if they both tried to outstubborn each other, her caressing her knee and hissing and her pain immobilizing her and leaving her dependent on others. Well, it was fine, as usually she was the one winning. In hopes for a speedy recovery, she was just biting her lip and keeping her head up, not seeing a choice other than to continue being the same strong girl she always was.
Today, however, she lost. Horribly.
or: For as calm and collected as McQueen tries to be, sometimes she's not exactly taking her retirement and health condition well. It's okay, though, as a certain miracle girl wants to bear these burdens alongside her.

Faces of so many citizens always light up when they reply, coming up with one of these options: her sweet, cheerful smile. Her famous Teio Step. The hope she's given so many. The miracle. Her reputation exceeds herself, but one thing is clear — people adore her for who she is, adore the happiness that her legacy has brought despite the amount of difficulties she faced.
But when she's not in the spotlight, Tokai Teio is still just an eighteen-years-old girl. And she's a girl who feels so many ugly feelings, who doesn't always keep a smile on her face. She's a girl who experiences excruciating pain, one that the general public will never be able to get. She's a girl who faceplants onto her pillow while cursing the hurting of her legs, which want to keep aching while not having a reason to.
