“Harding will be worried,” Ren said and yet made no move to push himself out of his indolent slouch against the bar. He went so far as to pour himself another drink and held the bottle out to Varric casually, like they had all the time in the world.
It brought to mind another dingy bar half the world away and the echo of laughter that Varric hadn’t heard in years with a nostalgia that ached like an old, old scar.

“The pleasure is all mine,” Essek replies, falling back on his manners even if he’s sure he looks bewildered. Most people from this side of the Ashkeeper Peaks don’t smile like that at the prospect of meeting someone from his folk.
