Crowley turned his head to look at Aziraphale over his shoulder. Aziraphale sucked in his breath quietly. Crowley smiled, and Aziraphale felt a jolt in his spine.
"This old thing? I’ve had it since Mesopotamia." Crowley’s voice cracked a bit. Aziraphale felt his jaw go slack. That long? Nearly exactly after Eden, when human civilization was in its infancy, Crowley had allowed some human to stab a sword of ink down his spine. Aziraphale raised his hand. It hovered in the air before him.
"Did it hurt?"
Crowley sighed. "Oh, Angel. It hurt wonderfully. I’d gladly do it again."
