“Did we perhaps meet in my library in the next life, Flame Reaver? Is Mydei of any loop always fated to be with his Phainon?”

The breeze sifted sweetly through the openings of the pillars lining the drop-off, and the gossamer curtains that draped from the arches fluttered effervescent around them. Phainon turned to Mydei then, his gaze soft and rueful.
"Mydeimos,” he said, his hand finding Mydei’s and drawing a sharp, anticipatory inhale from the Kremnoan prince. “You once told me your weakness, and now I will tell you mine.”
Mydei’s heart sank and a terrible pit churned in his stomach. “You don't need—”
Phainon interrupted him with a half-hearted shake of the head. “If anything happens, Mydeimos, and the other Chrysos Heirs or Okhema… if even Amphoreus itself is threatened because of me, my weakness is you.”
Or in which, Mydei must deal with the consequences of his curse of immortality lasting longer than expected.

“Mydeimos. You are not Mydeimos,” Phainon tries his best not to growl it out. Afterall, who knew what sort of tricks Thanatos would try next. “What a cruel prank to play on me.”
Thanatos crosses their arms and drums their fingers along arms that were distinctly Mydei’s. “You confound me, Phainon of Aedes Elysiae. It is clear that you would listen to him, that you would follow him across the Lethe—so why will you not rest?”
“You told me he is forbidden from crossing.” Phainon places a hand over his heart to steady himself. “And I find myself incapable of existing without him, whether in life or death.”
Or in which, Phainon dies but Mydei cannot.

But Chu Wanning, the frustratingly-oblivious-yet-completely-adorable devil that he is, actually responds to Mo Ran's address. He turns his head towards him with a tilt, even a little hm? escaping his mouth, and now there is absolutely no way for either of them to get back from this.

In a past lifetime, in a time when neither dared to be honest with the other—when one was trapped in hate—Taxian-Jun had frequent nightmares. The proud conqueror is nothing like himself when he’s having nightmares—reduced to a little boy curled into a ball, yearning warmth, affection. Love.
At first, Chu Wanning pulled away, unsure of what to do as he cried and pleaded with an unseen person to stay, please, don’t leave me. It had to be Shi Mingjing, the one Taxian-Jun was mourning. Surely, he wouldn’t want Chu Wanning to witness his grief, much less soothe him. Chu Wanning, the man who left his true love to die.
Still, eventually, Chu Wanning began to comfort him. Reached out to rest a hand on Taxian-Jun’s head, patting gently, carding his fingers through dark strands. And it calmed him, somehow, made the weeping fade and subside. So, the next time the nightmares struck, Chu Wanning reached for Taxian-Jun every time, always, no matter how bruised, battered, or aching he felt. No matter how much his own heart was filled with anguish.
And that’s what he does now.
