-Stephen King, The Long WalkIt makes the sensations in his feet and knees and ankles pale in comparison, the way Ray finds himself liking Pete. He likes the way Pete’s mind bounces from thought to thought, the quick grin that lights up his face when he’s enjoying a joke. Ray likes that Pete is always trying to keep everyone’s energy levels up, even if it means winding them up until they pick up the pace just to get away from him. But most of all Ray likes the way Pete looks at him, as though he is somehow witty and fascinating, and not painfully average in every way. What had Parker called him? A bumpkin? The fuck did I ever do to you, Collie?
