"The barracks must be more desperately bored than I realized.” He scoffs gently, "Your Highness should ignore them. It is nothing but the idle fantasies of men who have spent too many weeks staring at fortress walls."
Xie Lian stands perfectly still on his side of the divider. Despite hearing the careless dismissal in Hua Cheng’s voice, his own heart refuses to slow down.
"So is it not true that you are breaking curfew for… someone else? Besides for… coming here, of course."
Or, Crown Prince Xie Lian hears a rumor that his long-time friend, general and personal guard Hua Cheng is taken. He hates the sound of it. So much that he comes up with an ill-advised plan to test if the rumors are actually true. A true faithful man would not fall for such schemes, right?
