In this universe, Dan, a music composition grad student working on his thesis, and Phil, a novelist trying his best to get over his sophomore slump, book the week before Christmas in a bed and breakfast nestled against snow-covered mountains in France. They're tapped out creatively and need the week to work on their projects.
In this universe, Dan and Phil don't know each other. At least, that's how it starts.

Summary
It was a beautiful, relatively simple scene; a field with mountains off in the horizon, a galaxy for a sky, and a silhouette of a man made of stardust laying in a field, looking up at the universe above him.
Phil didn’t know it at the time, but that was the first painting of his that Dan inspired. Dan was his spaceman, his beautiful work of art that Phil wanted to spend the rest of his life recreating in every possible way.

Phil's just been promoted to Head Chef of The Golden Saucer. Which sounds like good news, but the restaurant is struggling, he's forced to cook a menu he hates, and on top of that they just got a one-star review from a renowned yet faceless food critic of a national newspaper.
