In their separate realms they each cast a spell, something that is supposed to deal with their enemies once and for all, without much effort on their part.
But casting these spells when their respective sides of the Veil have aligned causes the spell to go slightly awry, and the people they meant to kill are fine.

For a human past their mid twenties, to be precise. For a human who doesn’t happen to have sex with a Witcher on a regular basis, which Jaskier doesn’t, not that it is a well known fact around the keep.
_____Witcher's seed makes those they choose to take to their beds long-lived and healthy. The thing is, Jaskier doesn't like sex, and no sex means he does grow old.
