If it was Shin’s last stand, it’d be hers, too. She’d say she knew it like she knew the sun was going to rise tomorrow, but stranger things have happened here and she doesn’t put it past their world to one day spin backwards. But even if it did, she’d take left turns that used to be rights and follow Shin back to his room and pretend to fall asleep there while they watched TV on a screen that played upside down.

Summary
“Can I trust you, Levi?”, Erwin murmurs, after, head to his back and water running cold between them.
He didn’t use to ask, before.
“Who else would you fucking trust”, Levi gets out, skin breaking in goosebumps. Erwin hums behind him.
“Who indeed”, he mutters.
Levi understands anger. He’s intimate with it. He understands Erwin thought a lot of his sacrifice and that to have this opportunity at the expense of all that sacrifice probably feels like an unforgivable sin. It fractured something fundamental between them. Most sacrifices do. Levi did not save him because he saw some hope for them; world peace and a happily ever after. He did it because he knew, in his heart, Erwin was only one black hearted enough to see this through.
Maybe that’s love; to see the absolute worst in someone and see it as salvation, still.
It doesn’t really matter anyway. Erwin is still dying, just slower.

They were closing in on the wall, Erwin’s horse breathing hard beneath his thighs. His hands were clenched hard around the leather reins. His palms bleeding from how hard his nails dug into his palms. They were almost there, so close. They were so close, that the door started to open. It wasn’t moving fast enough to appease the Survey Corps though. Screams and yelling, not from pain this time, were sailing past Erwin. In vain telling the military police to open the goddamn doors faster. The cogs were turning, the chains lifting the heavy doors. Safety was almost within reach.They never made it though.
They never make it in Erwin’s dreams.
