Summary
The officials and scholars of the Great Zhou have concluded that the fall of Zhongbo was caused by Bai Cha, a siren that could shift into a bewitching woman, who used her song to manipulate Shen Wei into compromising military information to the Biansha troops. Following the fall, just before Xiao Chiye is to be sent to Qudu as a hostage, he encounters a siren in the Chashi river who intends to make a meal out of him. Five years later, in Qudu, he sees the surviving Shen descendent for the first time. Shen Zechuan is not only a splitting image of Bai Cha, but also the siren he thought he left to die in the Chashi river.

Summary
Xiao Chiye raised her head to give her wife an apologetic kiss on the lips but as she leaned in, Shen Zechuan burst into a sudden fit of laughter. It was extremely rare for Shen Zechuan to laugh so hard unless she was tickled, which gave Xiao Chiye pause. She pouted. “What’s so funny?”
Shen Zechuan’s gaze was fixed on a spot on her forehead. She was a little out of breath from laughing. Her finger traced a line across Xiao Chiye’s forehead, where her headband usually was, and where her skin was much lighter than the rest of her tanned skin. “I think my lang-zai has spent too much time in the sun. You have a tan line.”
