It’s meant to be harmless; some casual words of advice delivered as an offhand comment more than anything else, but when she looks up next and catches a dopey looking smile on Root’s face as if she were drugged and latching onto a thought that she enjoys entirely way too much, Shaw can’t help but feel like she might have overplayed her cards a little bit.

There lies a thin line between love and duty. Sometimes, the distinction between the two is clear as day. Other times, they blur until all that is left is a chaos that is neither love nor duty.
To the Frostmoon Scions, their Lady Moonchanter is the holy representative of Kuutar, an otherworldly leader whose duty it is to guard her people and nurture their faith. To Nefer, she is only Lauma, that wondrously selfless woman who will stop at nothing to help her people, even if she comes in at remarkably strange hours of day. The Sun and the Moon dance, their souls tangled, their affection fierce.
Duty is the death of love.
By the time the traveler arrives in Nod-Krai, their orbits are no longer intertwined. It’s only logical that Nefer is Lauma’s only hope at infiltrating the Fatui base. Their paths cross again, and this time, it’s for life.
Because sometimes, love is the death of duty.

She almost laughs at herself. What was she hoping for? That the room might still feel the same? That she might feel the same?
Then she steps inside, and the moment her eyes adjust—
“Sciel,” Lune says in a breath caught somewhere in between. Her guitar disappears in a flurry of chroma particles. “Of course you’d run into me up here.”

She flips him off, sipping on whatever gross spiced alcohol he'd gotten. Leave it to a man to disrupt her one night off in forever.
Grimacing, Rio turns back and—
Agatha is staring right at her, her mouth curled into the tiniest of smirks.
(In which Agatha doesn't sacrifice herself, Rio takes Billy instead and as promised, leaves Agatha alone until they accidentally meet a long time later on Christmas Eve.)
