Obi-Wan was supposed to track the bounty hunter, detain him, and bring him to Coruscant for questioning. He was not supposed to uncover a clone army, start a galaxy-wide war, and share a drug-induced heat with the very bounty hunter he was supposed to detain.
Or the one where Obi-Wan and Jango share a drug-induced heat & rut on Geonosis and somehow keep ending up in each other's beds throughout the Clone Wars.

Let's assume Palps wanted to kill Obi-Wan.
Well, I say assume, but we all know it was his greatest wish. So what if, one time, he forgot to cover his tracks, or did it not as thoroughly, as he usually would. Got distracted, maybe, or just too angry at Kenobi, or too confident in his abilities, thinking that if the Jedi still haven't found him right under his nose, he has nothing to fear.
Well.
The only reason he wanted to kill Obi-Wan off was because Anakin is too attached to his former Master. So why was he so surprised to find out that Anakin was not very happy with the fact that the person he considered a close friend tried to kill his Master?
