Because, here's the thing. Ilya isn't actually jealous. Jealousy implies that there's a potential for Shane to be swept away by one of these random suitors. And aside from the occasional depressive spiral that can lead Ilya to those thoughts — though that rarely happens after so many years of marriage — he knows that Shane would choose him over everyone. He trusts that Shane loves him just as much as he loves Shane.
Ilya knows there's no chance in hell that a random man flirting with Shane in a pet store would be enough to turn his head.
But what Ilya is, is fucking possessive.
