He raises his eyebrows at her. He can’t move anything at the moment, so he’s not really sure what the nurse — fuck, that’s misogynist — doctor is talking about, actually. Leon’s pretty sure his leg’s broken in three places and his arm in two, and his ribs feel like a Lamborghini has rammed it up the hill at top speed, which is to say, shit. No, back it up a bit. Overall, he feels like Absolute Fucking Shit. If he were to detail it on the charts, he would probably give them a summary that starts with battered crash-test dummy. And then a nurse would ask how was Spain? And then he’d say hotter than expected.
(Or: Ada Wong is the emergency department’s most valuable asset, and Leon Kennedy keeps ending up in her care.)

“Don’t you have something better to do?”
“Better than being near you? Nope.” He lowers his head onto her leg then, settling there with a soft, deliberate weight. One arm drapes loosely over her shin, holding her in place like she might otherwise escape him. Leon knows he’s being clingy but after spending years where he barely got to hold her till the wee hours of morning, because she would somehow slip by in the dark, and he wouldn’t have any idea when he would see her next time, he thinks he has earned this much.

For a moment, Leon’s eyes moved to her abdomen, submerged in thoughts he did not share. Impulsive as he’d always been, Leon followed the beat of his heart and reached out to lift the thin fabric of her tank top, just enough to reveal the old scar she carried there. He touched it with his fingers, his mind astray in a destroyed city and a girl who told him that she fell in love with him. Any man in his position… any man with a fucking functional brain would stay away from women like her, would have enough of her lies and her sweet tongue that poisoned his wildest dreams worse than any virus out there. He was a fool.
But he loved her.
That much was true. He knew it now.
Or: Leon and Ada figuring out their feelings throughout the years, realizing this is more than just a maddening obsession. He fell first, she fell harder.
