Vi slowly began unwrapping the bandages and watched as they exposed the bruised skin of her hands, her scarred, uneven knuckles; broken, healed and broken again. Small scars ran all over the place, some cuts still fresh too – it was all bare and exposed, for everyone to see. Her skin prickled and her whole body tensed, like it always when she heard the far echoes of footsteps quickly approaching, marching towards her dark, damp cell, as she waited with her fists clenched and at the ready for the imminent danger.
