Jin Ling whirls around to look up at his uncle with big pleading eyes. “Jiujiu, can we?”
“Yeah, jiujiu, it’s for school.” Huaisang quips, also with big eyes, and Jiang Cheng knows it's on purpose.
He looks at them both and finds it hard to keep his frown in place. This combination should be illegal.
Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang babysit little Jin Ling. Bead bracelets happen.

“Nie Huaisang.” The gruff voice calls, and they both turn to see Nie Mingjue standing by the driver’s side of the car, frowning with his eyes narrowed at them. “What are you doing?”
Jiang Cheng quickly takes his hands off Nie Huaisang, although with the other basically hanging off of him, his hands just end up… hovering. Wait, why did he do it, anyway? It’s not like he’s touching Nie Mingjue’s precious little brother anywhere inappropriate! It’s a hug! Friends hug everytime. Nie Huaisang hugs everyone everytime!
Case in point: “Hugging my best friend, Da-ge.” Nie Huaisang answers, all innocence and big eyes. “Welcoming him to Qinghe.”

Summary
Holy shit, he thinks. That’s it! Maybe nobody else can see it, but Nie Huaisang’s eyes are sharp and trained from years of reading crappy romance novels. There’s definitely a spark of something between Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji, and Nie Huaisang can suddenly see them as the protagonists of his novel.
If you ask him, it's not Nie Huaisang's fault that he's a famous author. The Cloud Recesses just didn't have enough romantic novels, that's all, and Nie Huaisang couldn't imagine living without those - no excitement, no adventure, no life, how did the poor Lan disciples cope? So really. It's not his fault, he was only trying to find some inspiration to rectify this problem!
But if this author gig necessitates that he matchmake Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji... well, he's not complaining.
(Or; the one where Lan Wangji is struggling, Nie Huaisang unknowingly fixes a great deal of problems, and Jiang Wanyin did not sign up for any of this.)

His mother covered her mouth with her hand to hide her laughter when he presented her with the results of several weeks’ worth of effort: it was just barely recognizable as the world’s ugliest duck.
“A symbol of loving devotion,” one of her maids said.
