Summary
“Then don’t you dare ask me to be your companion.”
It meets your glare with its hooded eyes, dark and enigmatic beneath the bone of its brow. “I do not ask.”
A numbing sensation settles upon your shoulders as the meaning of its words sink in. Something changes in the air between you, that primal urge to flee that had gone dormant during your conversation spiking up again as your pulse unintentionally quickens.
“You cannot keep me here,” you say slowly, forcing your voice to remain calm as your leg twinges with pain, reminding you of your crippling weakness.
“I can,” it states simply, and it's the casual confidence in that statement that unnerves you more than anything else yet. “And I will. Until you heal and understand.”
“Understand what?!” Your voice rings with incredulity as its gaze softens slightly. Haven’t you already talked about this? What else is there for you to possibly understand?
“That your hatred is the first real thing that has ever been truly mine.”

You were dead set on ignoring the red string that had suddenly appeared around your pinky, it was just an oddity, a cosmic mishap. That is, until your childhood friend shows you he's got the exact same string around his finger. That's when you start getting weird messages from a mystery contact giving you crude 'missions' to complete. Like 'find the other people connected to your red string' and 'fuck the nearest red string target in ten hours'. A totally crude and ridiculous prank. That is, until you're almost hit by a car.
