Thursday nights are the best for laundry. At one in the morning, there’s never anyone there and the solitude combined with the muffled sound of the clothes in their individual cycles is the perfect white noise to help shut Ian’s head down for an hour and a half each week. It’s always peaceful. A rare peace. It’s a routine and a sense of complacency that medication and lost memories from therapy in his adolescence won’t provide.
There’s one Thursday, however, where the laundromat isn’t empty. Not full, but not empty.
