Mabel Pines is alive. She survived unimaginable horrors, she fought a demon.
Mabel Pines doomed the world to end, handing it over for just a little more summer, and then she saved it, all in the span of three days.
Mabel Pines is home now. She is back in Piedmont, in California. Not in Oregon, and certainly not in Gravity Falls. This shouldn’t feel as wrong as it does.
Mabel Pines is sitting at the kitchen table, the ceiling lamp lighting up the otherwise dark room, and in front of her is a mug with perfectly made hot chocolate. It has marshmallows on top, and the blue and green sprinkles she used to like. And her dad made it, which makes it even more perfect.
Mabel Pines stares at the perfect hot chocolate and wants to cry.

Summary
Sometimes, only a moment can change the course of your whole life.
A blaster bolt, not reflected fast enough, an explosion, not escaped quickly enough, a loss of a friend, a limb and normality.
Tubbo was eighteen when his Master died and the council decided that, yeah, eighteen was definitely old enough for a padawan to get knighted.
He should have seen it coming, really. There was no use to waste resources and keep him as Padawan, when Tubbo was supposed to have his trials in a few standard months anyways.

It’s like someone makes the air in Sunny’s lungs disappear. The messages on her communicator feel all too familiar, they fill their mind with flashbacks.
It’s like she is back at Tubchunk and her Pa lies on the ground of the hole. “Hey poppet!” he would sing, like it was funny. Funny that he fell the third time that day, like it was an accident when Sunny knew it wasn't.

Grian, who wanted nothing more than to forget his Watcher past, was quite happy not to be worshipped at all. So when the Hermits collectively started praying to Xelqua and Grian started to gain a lot of Watcher magic, it put a real damper on his mood, health, self-perception and his relationships. With Mumbo gone off-world, it was now up to Scar, Pearl and Xisuma to worry about him – if Grian would let them. But Grian was nothing if not stubborn. He’d get through this alone, right?

"I don't want to pry," Xisuma said when they were speaking before his official invitation to join. "And not answering won't change whether or not you get whitelisted. We admins just prefer to have a heads up if anything's likely to come trying to dig you up, so we can keep you and everyone else safe."
Grian thought back to obsidian and endstone and blood, to tattered wings and torn robes and so so many unseeable eyes, and swallowed hard.
"No," he said, his voice shaky. "No, I don't think anyone will come looking for me."
"Okay," Xisuma answered, and that was that.
Until they invited two new people to the server.
or, the Hermitcraft Backstory Rule says that you don't ask other people about their backstory, you let them tell it if they want to and leave it be if they don't.
Unfortunately for Grian, one of the newest Hermits was also a player on his old server - one he'd thought had been dead for years - and she's going to drag his backstory kicking and screaming into the light whether she means to or not.

Summary
Anything could be fixed by a little bit of sleep. At least, that's what Grian kept repeating to himself as he tossed in his bed, trying not to think about Pearl. The sun had set hours ago, and he still couldn’t get his mind to shut down. When he finally felt a wave of sleep threaten to knock him out, there was a knock at the door.
Grian was going to kill whoever was making him get out of bed. Mumbo would have the audacity, but was usually in bed by this hour anyway. Scar was the more likely suspect.
He opened the door, a smile halfway on his face as he geared up to throw some insults and scolding at Scar. Instead, he saw a familiar face. One he’d hoped he’d never see again.

(Stanley and Stanford visit the kids and their parents in Piedmont, and end up dealing with the fallout of last summer. Demons and monsters are a lot for two average adults from Piedmont to grasp, but the gender stuff doesn't help either.)
