Reid is quiet for another long moment, examining each side with great intensity and focus. The gears make a nice quiet sound, and he likes the feeling of the notches under his fingertips. The buttons are slightly too loud to be noticeable to only him, but they’re quite nice to press. The switch is perhaps his favorite, and he finds himself greatly enjoying the feeling of his thumb rocking back and forth, shifting the pressure from side to side.

He hears a knock on his doorframe. He opens his mouth, ready to say something that people would think is very typical Josh that’s actually just very typical tired and anxious Josh (which is Josh most of the time, but the people who matter know he’s not like that; C. J. and Leo and Joey and Donna and… Sam. Sam knows more than anyone.). He lifts his face from his hands, ready to tell anybody, nobody who it is, to leave him alone.
Unfortunately, he looks up and sees his exception. Sam Seaborn is leaning in his doorway with the most sincere blue eyes Josh has ever seen. Josh’s face softens despite everything that’s happened in the past 12 hours.

“Wait.” Dennis orders, eliciting a chuckle from Robby. He chooses to obey, sitting on the edge of his bed as Dennis runs back to the foyer. Robby can see that the nervous, yet excited energy from earlier has returned.
After some fumbling around inside his backpack, Dennis returns with something clenched in both his fists. His face is still dusted pink, flushing all the way down his neck, but a bashful smile eases the tension in the room.
“So…there was a sale online?” Dennis starts to explain, opening his hands. Robby’s eyes widened slightly.

They round the corner, Jack’s house waiting at the end of the block. Jack laughs, a little wicked, the tiniest bit tipsy, bumping into Robby’s side as they walk. “Ladies and gentlemen, gather round to watch the great Doctor Michael Robinavitch dig his own grave!”
