“Maybe I finally got tired of pretending like there’s not more cursed energy in my body than the rest of this country combined,” he snaps. He takes a large bite of the strawberry bread he’d uncovered, and throws himself down into the chair across from Shoko. “Or maybe you’ve just finally opened your eyes to see it.”
“Bitch,” she says, and he rolls his eyes. Then, after a few moments, her gaze turns horrifyingly from piercing to analytical, and then to something he’s never seen on her before. “Are you, like… good?”
Gojo huffs out a laugh, and it breaks a line of tension in his shoulders. Shoko must see it too, because she sighs in visible relief. “I’m fine, mom, no emotions necessary,” he says, through his mouthful of pastry, and it’s Shoko’s turn to roll her eyes. “I might kill Geto, though.”

Summary
I inhaled the scent of clean dirt, and as I exhaled, a breeze pulled its fingers through my unbound hair, suggesting that I might sit back down and rest, for a while. It was not even a suggestion, really, but an agreement with what I already desired, to rest, to be content, to feel a sense of connection and completeness with the world around me I so rarely experienced in the waking world. Of course, I thought, I was asleep; whatever had been in the sweetsleep tea not only released inhibitions and freed the mind from its darker thoughts, but also allowed the user to meet pleasant dreams. I took in the details of the hill again, each juxtaposed layer of my past. A valley cradling the sleeper in their own memories to disguise the undercurrent sensation of being cradled by some greater being.
“Fitz,” a woman’s voice said ahead of me, almost as if summoned. I turned to find my eldest daughter sitting at the base of the hill, watching me with something like wariness.

“Don’t go. I’ve missed you. Sleep here tonight. Please.”
So I did.
I would like to say what came next was a result of this pondering, that the realization came as I considered his goodness, or that it arrived as I considered our brief moment of singularity in the moments before bed in which I asked to heal him. Instead, my breath caught watching his spun-gold hair in the flickering light of his abandoned cookfire, and the epiphanies fell onto me like an avalanche on a deer who can’t run fast enough down the snowy slope, so suddenly it seemed the wind had been knocked out of me.

Summary
Gojo’s coming out of the bathroom when he hears it. His shirt is still only halfway over his head, and his mouth is open to yell something obnoxious into the kitchen, but whatever the thought was had come to a screeching halt when the sound happened. He pauses for a few seconds longer, still frozen in shock, until it happens again.
“Ack-choo!”
Gojo’s brain finally restarts, and, only lightly getting tangled in his sleeves as he moves quickly down the hallway, skids to a stop in the entry to the kitchen.
“What was that?” Gojo exclaims. It’s been quite a while since he’s been so downright bewildered.
“What do you mean?” Nanami says, only barely glancing up. “Your breakfast is cold. You take too long in the bathroom.”
