The wedding had been a quiet affair in the godswood of Winterfell, your hand in his as you both stood before the ancient weirwood. Your father, a bannerman and dear friend of Lord Stark, had been beaming, his joy a stark contrast to the solemn, watchful presence of the man you were to marry. Jon had been stoic, as always, his dark eyes holding a universe of thoughts you couldn’t yet decipher. You had barely spoken more than a dozen words to him before the ceremony, but you didn’t mind. There was something about his quiet intensity that drew you in, a silent strength that felt like a shield.
It had been your idea to leave immediately. To travel before settling into the duties of Lady of a modest holdfast near the Dreadfort. “I want to see the realm, Jon,” you had whispered to him after the feast, your heart thudding nervously. “With you.”
He had looked at you for a long moment, a flicker of surprise in his grey eyes, before giving a slow, deliberate nod. “As my lady wishes.”
