"Come on," the boy whispers pleadingly, holding up what looks like a half eaten apple in an attempt to coax Ace out of her pen, though it seems to no avail. She stands with as much indifference and care as a brick wall.
Bruce, who's been around for enough decades that he thinks he might be constituted as old by mythological terms, has never had someone outright try to rob his horse. His armour, sure, sometimes even his weapons and bags — though no one makes it very far on broken legs with either.
But his horse?
It's so bizarre, in fact, that Bruce can't stop the bubbling laughter rip out of his throat.

Boys don't last very long in the Wayne family.
He expected a burning retort from Alfred, or a piece of wisdom disguised in a professional insult, or even a soothing compliment. He didn't expect Alfred to outright laugh.
Bruce pouted, lips pulled in a grumpy, offended frown. " You're fired. Seriously, this time. " He did not sound grumpy. He did not.
Alfred, most clearly not taking Bruce's very serious threat seriously at all, pointed a finger at the Batmboile, entirely too smug for Bruce's liking.
There, still on the platform, peeking from the window with bullet dents from one of Penguin's ambushes, a head of messy curls and wide, excited teal eyes pins Bruce on the spot.
"It seems this isn't in your control anymore. Shame."
"Hn."
Or,
Gotham is constantly cold, and Bruce has no idea how to handle the sunshine child that robbed him.
