Summary
Sophia grins and waves when she sees him. Eddie waves back with a smile of his own. His heart hammers against his chest. He has no idea how to react. Will they hug? Shake hands? Stand there awkwardly? He saw her at Abuela's funeral, but the memory is so brief and hazy he's not sure he can count it. He can almost physically feel every single year of near silence that's stacked up between them.
Sophia answers the question when she throws her arms around him without hesitation. It's a brief hug, barely two seconds, but Eddie holds onto it anyway.
eddie and his sisters don't talk. he hasn't spoken to adriana beyond pleasantries at family gatherings and funerals in over a decade, and he calls sophia maybe twice a year. but then sophia texts and asks if she can stay with him while she's interviewing for a pediatrics residency at ucla, and everything changes.

Buck flinches at the sudden noise and looks up to find Eddie lingering near the edge of the coffee table. He clearly just rolled out of bed and wandered out here from the bunk room. His hair is a mess. His t-shirt is creased and a little rumpled. There's a comfortable quality about him, or maybe that's just Buck seeking warmth and reassurance by looking at his fiancé.
"C'mon," Eddie says through a yawn as he walks over to the couch. "Lemme sit."

Summary
Like everything else in Victoria's existence, her dating life is dictated by strict rules. Not imposed by her parents, thankfully. It's just easier to keep her dating situation as neat and orderly as every other path in her life while also trying to introduce a little spontaneity into her life.
The rules are good. The rules mean Victoria can interact with people closer to her own age without her mom breathing down her neck or her new coworkers at Pittsburgh EMS fishing for gossip. The rules let her test out this dating women without having to interact with anyone she actually knows.
And then she meets Trinity Santos, and every single rule comes crashing down.

"Will, why wouldn't I care?," Mike asks.
Will stops and turns to face Mike. God, the confusion and hurt on his face are infuriating. Can't this boy ever notice anything? Maybe if he noticed more, they wouldn't be in this situation. They would be Will and Mike, walking home after a hang out. They wouldn't be El's brother and El's ex-boyfriend, at odds in the woods after one of them made the mistake of mentioning the dead girl they both love too much.
"Because, Mike!," Will replies in his same sharp tone from before, getting louder and more desperately angry with each word. "All of you still walk on eggshells around me, and when you're not treating me like a fucking toddler, you treat me like a stand in for El!"
