It's December in apocalyptic Hawkins, and nearing Christmas time. But an ominous attack on the Wheeler basement leaves it out of commission, and Mike doesn't know how to talk to an injured yet stubborn Will.
Combatting nightmares driven by fear, Mike gets his head out of his ass to speak to him. But this means one thing-they have to share a room.

Lucas stares, shocked at all their willingness to throw him under the bus, “Oh come on, I totally paid last time,” He looks over to Will, “And Will never pays-- He always gets out of it somehow.”
“That's so not true-” Mike retorts
“It so is, because you’re always making excuses for him.’ Dustin nods in agreement.
“No, I’m not—and Dustin, when was the last time you paid, huh?” Dustin pulls the finger on him, “Last week dipshit!”
“Yeah-he’s not making excuses,” Will adds.
“He’s making excuses for you right now, Will.” Dustin comments.

Mike feels like he's dying, which is okay, a little dramatic. But it's true. Because Will's here, but he's not here, not fully present, not telling him anything and everything. He's not looking him directly in the eyes anymore, or gleaming when he throws out a snide comment or joke.
He's here, but he's not here.
Will's not letting him in anymore, and it's killing him.
