Shadowheart swats this aside. “Love, the grand delusion,” she scoffs. “Of course not.”
“You’ve never – held someone’s hand, and felt sparks fly?”
Shadowheart is about to deny it when she has a sudden remembrance of taking Florwyn’s hands earlier to remove the pain from her sorcery. The swooping sensation in her stomach returns in an uncomfortable crescendo at that very moment, sending heat tingling through her body. She takes a deep breath, trying to empty herself of emotion.
“No,” she says blandly. I must not get attached ...

Summary
Shadowheart has been kidnapped by sharrans and she watched it happen: in a last ditch attempt to save her partner, Hymn goes back to Bhaal as his chosen so that she can once again claim the slayer's form.
Five years later, Shadowheart is free and can lay eyes on Hymn again for the first time but... She's not sure they still have a future together. And she doesn't have it in her to hope anymore.

With Shadowheart's propensity for gazing into Shar's Mirror of Loss, and The Dark Urge's unfortunate and nonconsensual lobotomy, neither of them should be surprised that when they met on the Nautiloid it was only one of a myriad *chance* first-encounters.

Shadowheart and her Dark Urge, Violet, are unmoored in memories long lost to them, traveling back and forth throughout time in a divine dream-state, and rarely if ever find themselves *awake* in the same place and time.
