Years earlier, when war still raged far from the North, in the Stepstones, Rickon Stark swore an oath to King Viserys I to strengthen the alliance between North and South. The North pledged to answer the call to war, should it be required, to defend the legitimacy of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen as heir to the Iron Throne.
