    Summary

Ilya Rozanov has been drafted by Boston, the number one pick overall, but his father doesn't want him moving to America and so takes steps to block his visa. He's going to have to go back to Russia and stay there forever and that, thinks Shane Hollander, is wrong.

It's so wrong that Shane can't stop himself from doing something about it. Even though that something is the most reckless, the only reckless thing he's ever done in his life. He marries Rozanov in secret, to keep him out of Russia and put him on a path to Canadian citizenship.

Shane's got a five-year plan to get him there and when you have a plan nothing can go wrong. Right? Right. When you have a solid plan and a marriage that's on paper only there's no risk of feelings getting involved. Not on Rozanov's part and certainly not on Shane's.

    Right???

(or, the story of how Shane Hollander fell in love with his own husband)

The one where Grigori tries to stop Ilya from playing in the MHL so Shane marries him to keep him safe. They bang from the beginning, but have zero idea of putting the word love to it. Immigration lawyer Emily, Jenny the grey citizenship bureaucrat, Brian and Brad shitty assholes who leak the marriage to the press around year 7. Running gag about pupils being not like eyes but schoolchildren. Shane meeting Rose and blurting out about his marriage. Always wearing their rings in private / when they’re together. Vow renewal. Ends with them both moving to expansion draft of Quebec City Owls and building a team there, winning cup in the first year. Plenty of funny moments and feelings.

    Summary

Wiebe could tell he was wearing Ilya down, but he still looked nervous. "Ilya," Ilya stilled. To his team he was always Rozanov or Roz or Rozy, never Ilya. "You're our guy. There's nobody I'd rather be our captain, to lead this team to another Stanley Cup. It's clear you don't like the guy, but we both know how good this could be."

Ilya jerked his head in a nod. "We will destroy everyone, this is true." Wiebe seemed satisfied. Ilya stood to leave and delivered one last look at Wiebe "But I do not have to be happy about it."

Years after tuna meltdown, they haven’t talked. Ilya briefly married Svetlana. Shane makes trade to Boston (altered: some Ottawa folks mixed in), and basically pursues / courts Ilya to get him back with “not” dates.

    Summary

Shrugging one shoulder far more casually than he possibly feels, Ilya says, “I like both. Is secret, okay?”

    “Okay,” Hollander says, voice cracking.

He doesn’t say anything else. The air’s so heavy around them that it feels like being in the middle of a scrum, the weight and heat of all those bodies pressing down on you. Danger always feels like hockey; it’s the most dangerous thing Ilya knows, except for this. Everything dangerous in his life involves men’s bodies and just how close he can get to them. Closer than he probably should.

A year after mysteriously dropping out of the 2009 draft, Shane Hollander is signed by the Boston Raiders, right behind Ilya Rozanov. Having the two biggest stars in the league on the same line is great for Boston — but playing alongside their worst rival was never exactly in Shane or Ilya's plans. Especially not when staying away from each other starts to feel just as impossible as getting along.

Staggered draft, Shane comes to Boston year after Ilya. Live in same apartment building. Casual with clinically high anxiety Shane. Win cup in third season together against Chicago, Shane out to his parents at end. Good interiority and thoughts, lots of good prose on intimacy.
