She did catch him in the act, only once, face hidden behind his sleeve. There were no petals, no buds, no whole-blooming flowers in his wake. It was a long-running cold, perhaps an allergy.

Andrew hasn’t seen Neil in 3 months. He’s in his final year at PSU, and Andrew in his rookie season playing for Las Vegas. Leaving had been hard, harder than he ever imagined it would be. Who knew what kind of trouble Neil would get into without Andrew there to protect him. Still, Neil had said “I’ll be fine,” and “It’ll be over before we know it,” and “I’ll take good care of myself.”
Now Andrew wishes he had forced Aaron to make that same promise.

The parking lot was empty.He stared, the silence almost comical. Leaves rustled, and birds chirped.
But there was no car, no Andrew honking at him to hurry.
Nobody at all. He was standing in an utterly empty parking lot in the setting sun.

The others keep accidentally leaving Aaron behind. They don't mean to do it; they just have their own stuff going on and aren't paying enough attention.

Both men watched as Neil stormed out of the living room. Kevin looked at Andrew and said, “You better fix this.”
“Not my job, Day.”
“Fix it,” Kevin walked towards his room, “figure out what the fuck is wrong with him.”
