Stanley still remembers the exact moment he told Xeno he was leaving for the army in the next few days.
He also remembers the way Xeno's face shifted – a flicker of something unreadable passing through his eyes before he masked it with his usual composure. He remembers the feel of the cigarette between his fingers as he cupped his palm around the flame, shielding it from the wind, then stretching his legs out on the grass, letting the smoke curl upward into the fading light.Now, he thinks he should have kissed Xeno that day.

Would a person remain the same if you took them apart and rebuilt them, stripping away every privilege, every trace of the life they once knew?
If Stanley had known, 3,700 years ago, that this would happen - that everything would collapse, that they would lose everything – he would have taken more leave. He would have spent more time with Xeno, locked themselves away together in the lab if necessary, hoarding every moment like precious currency. But if Stanley could have prevented what happened 3,700 years ago by some divine intervention, he never would have. Who could have guessed that the end of civilization could also be salvation?

Summary
Согласно статистике, лишь три обручённые пары из десяти не приходят к решению расторгнуть брак. Можно ли сделать вывод, что лишь три пары из десяти счастливы? Определённо нет, ведь не каждая сохранившая брак пара довольна своими отношениями. Ксено всегда считал себя исключением из всех возможных правил, а из этой статистики тем более. Так что могло пойти не так?
