“Wait, what?” Dunk asks, and Egg taps his chin up with the edge of his binder so that Dunk’s teeth clack together as his mouth shuts.
“Legend has it that Aerion passed a Check Yes or No note to you once. And you gave it on to Tanselle without even looking at it.
“So now he hates you.”
Dunk is aghast. Well. Hate is a word, but…
“Does everyone know this? How do I NOT know this?”
Tanselle throws up her hands when he moves his entreating gaze to her.
“Leave me out of this,” she says.

Dunk realizes that maybe Aerion’s been obsessed with him for a while. (Six years, but who’s counting?) He wonders if he’s not as disturbed about it as he should be. -

“Real camping.” Duncan mutters, running a hand through his hair as they pull into the gravel road that leads to the cabin, “You know, with a tent and sleeping bags and-“
“I’m not sleeping in the dirt,” Aerion snaps, parking the car behind his dad’s, “Just try to get through the weekend, okay? I swear, we’ll have fun.” He presses a kiss to the side of Duncan’s jaw and unclicks his seatbelt before stepping out. He misses the glare that Maekar sends Duncan’s way through the windshield, like daggers in his skull.
“Yeah.” Duncan sighs, “Fun.”
