AKA a fic where Jinwoo unintentionally wreaks havoc on the mha police force, becomes somewhat of a mystery and befriends a cat? then a shadow cat? may or may not be the same cat. The cat is not a main part of the story, but as I write this I kind of wanna give him a cat. So ta-da cat has now been added to plans.

A one-shot inspired by Pied Piper by Blackholeca.
A shaky camera peeks through a window, the corner slightly obscured by a curtain. Faintly, a figure can be seen walking away across the rooftops, a slight skip in their step.
In the bottom left corner of the screen, barely visible in the dark, a briefcase gleams and sends a small spot of light shining upwards.
The jolly figure’s silhouette can be seen abruptly stopping, their actions pausing for only a moment before they launch from the edge of the roof they’d been on, sending their body spiraling in a dizzying flip to the ground.

ahhhh i enjoyed this so much, it's one of those fics you just don't want to put down, no i didn't tire of it at all, no it didn't lose my attention for a minute, it was magnificent. Bookmarked to reread.

Summary
Set one year before the events of Fourth Wing, this is the first person perspective of a character ascending the Parapet at Basgiath with the intent of ending their life. If this story doesn't hurt you, I've failed.
Kane is an OC of unknown origin and traumatic past. The story follows his unwilling participation in the Riders Quadrant during an ordinary year at Basgiath. Though untrained, his life will continually be prolonged by music, luck, relationships, and shreds of hope. The longer he survives, the more he thrashes against the dissonance between his past and his developing worldview. Through his perspective we also follow his team, a deep and tight-knit aspiring Iron Squad; though we all know at least half of every squad inevitably fail the trials of Basgiath.
I've done my best to respect the canon of the Empyrean books wherever possible, and have 'fixed' some plot inconsistences/open questions. Some contrivances were invented to fit the narrative.

Megumi blinks open his eyes. Assaulted with the bright white of a hospital room, he almost wishes he hadn’t, but nonetheless turns his gaze to whoever is with him. A big burly man, hair so red that Megumi assumes it’s dyed, stands before him, young but skin dug into with frown lines and faint stress wrinkles. Megumi half jokes to himself that the man might be worse off than Nanami.
He opens his mouth to speak, the question of what happened and where Gojo is on the tip of his tongue. Only when he attempts to voice his words, nonsensical babbling replaces his speech and Megumi wants to scream.
OR: Fushiguro Megumi dies at the hands of his mentor inorder to prevent the King of Curses - Ryoumen Sukuna - from destroying and enslaving the world.
He is reborn as Todoroki Shouto, son and number 1 hater of Endeavor, wondering why he couldn’t just die in peace.
