    Exhausted, bruised all the way to his soul, angry at the world and at himself, he's forced to wonder, for the first time in his life, if he still has what it takes to captain the Enterprise.

    With the unconventional help of his brother, and that of a rather unexpected visitor, he must come to terms with some long-buried truths about himself, face what happened to him at the hands of the Borg, and remember what it means for him to be Jean-Luc Picard.

    They held each other’s gazes for a long moment, until a bolt of lightning struck the sky. Thunder boomed loudly and Q flinched violently, before attempting to look like he hadn’t. Jean-Luc felt realisation dawn, and his expression softened.

    “Come inside,” Jean-Luc said gently. “I’ll put on some tea.”

He’s recognizing Q with something akin to affection, and realizing that every petty argument they have—petty because there’s comparatively little Q can do here to cross ethical bounds—leaves him closer and closer to understanding Q’s odd and uncanny gestures.
