Summary
Barty doesn't trust the new recruit at the cafe he works in, doesn't trust the clearly falsified resume or the fake name or how he is always hiding when Pandora Rosier is around. His suspicions turn out to be not unfounded when the new barista moves into the apartment below him.
Working on staying on his feet, this new person may be the next thing to knock Barty off his feet, the next catalyst. Maybe. Maybe he will be just the thing to keep Barty on his feet.
Whatever the consequences, Barty is going to have to deal with them. Because this will have consequences, this will have effects, this will change things. For better, or for worse, is yet to become clear.

Barty had taken his anger out on other people his entire life. Mostly on people he did not care for, he was ashamed of admitting that the most damage - or the only one Barty cared for - was the one he’d done to the people he loved.
Barty had never learned how to love.
His mother had tried to teach him, but it had been overshadowed by his father’s indifference.
Barty’s love had teeth. It bit anyone who dared come close enough.
There had never been a person Barty loved that he hadn’t hurt.
He’d done it to his mother when she didn’t deserve to bear the anger he held for his father.
He’d done it to Regulus when he needed to let his frustration out during their teenage years.
Until Evan. Barty refused to do the same to him.
He couldn’t. Not to Evan.or the one where Barty and Evan try to love each other better in entirely different ways

At first, Mike was unsure how to approach him when he got like this. But they’ve been living together for months now, never further than five feet apart in their dorm beds, so Mike’s learned what works and what doesn’t.
It works when he wakes Will like this, with gentle hands and words, telling him he’s safe. It works when he climbs into Will’s warm bed, turning him on his side and curling up against his back, an arm over his waist and his cheek pressed against his shoulder. They lie together like that until Will’s hiccupping gasps soften into steady breaths, until Mike feels him go limp in his arms and he knows he’s fallen back asleep. It always works.
or: Will has nightmares and Mike is the only one who can console him. Not even Will's boyfriend can. Mike takes great pride in this fact.
