“Lan Zhan,” he said with a grin, masking the weary he felt at the sight of the man. They hadn’t parted on good terms, and he couldn’t be sure if the man wanted to kill him.He wouldn’t be surprised; the rumours he’d heard about himself when he left Burial Mounds to go to Yiling were far from flattering. It seemed as if every single thing that had gone wrong since his departure had been blamed on him, regardless of if he was even involved or not. Half the stories about him were ridiculous, but people believed them, and he knew that was dangerous.
Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan said with a tilt of his head.
“Do you want to come in?” he asked hesitantly. If the man truly wanted to hurt him, he hoped that he’d do it outside, so the Wens would not be in danger.
“Mm,” Lan Zhan agreed, “I have not come to harm Wei Ying.”
Lan Zhan decides something needs to be done when he visits Wei Ying at the Burial Mounds. And that changes everything

“This is he,” Lan Xichen said, as he poured his congee into his bowl, as he brought it, and the tea he’d prepared earlier to the table.
“I’m very sorry to be the one to inform you. Your cousin and his wife were involved in a hit and run last night, where their car was hit head on at an intersection. I’m sure the detectives can give you more information about the accident. Neither of them made it. They passed away on the scene. I’m calling you in regard to the custody of their son.”
And just like that, he felt the world begin to spin.

“I enjoy this better than a needle on my skin beyond medical reasons,” Lan Zhan answered, amused. His eyes were soft as he stared at Wei Ying, hands brushing the sides of Wei Ying’s thighs, slow and gentle so he wouldn’t move and ruin his husband’s artwork.
