❝… Dazai only hears Chuuya's faint breath on the other end of the line, and the tremor in his voice.
"Dazai...?"
"I'm here." His voice sounds raw, destroyed, alive. It's a terrible irony.
"Did you arrive...?"
At that same moment, Chuuya's building appears in front of the brunette. The lights. The reflection of the sign against the wet asphalt.
Dazai doesn't slow down, he doesn't think. He runs and pushes the door so hard that it shakes on its hinges.

After Mori Ougai discovers Chuuya Nakahara and Dazai Osamu's nightly rendezvous, he decides Chuuya is worth more dead than alive and gives him his dismissal letter in the form of a poisoned wine bottle. It's up to Dazai to arrive in time and save him, just as it's up to Chuuya to choose himself for once (or not). It's up to both of them to realize how much they're willing to give for each other after all.

“Hey, uh, Akutagawa?” Atsushi tries shakily.
“What is it, weretiger?”
“Don’t you think those two are, um… a little… close?”
Akutagawa turns his eyes away from the window, following Atsushi’s gaze towards the strange duo. The two of them watch as Ryuunsouke pulls back, fingertips that had been on the other’s biceps trailing down and down, to his elbow, to the other’s waist –
Akutagawa’s expression does not change.
“…They are partners, weretiger. There’s nothing unusual there,” he concludes, then turns back to the window.
Atsushi’s eyebrow twitches.
Partners his ass.
After the defeat of Fukuchi Ochi, Atsushi and Akutagawa stumble across a pocket of spacetime that sends them to a world in which their doppelgängers are both members of the Armed Detective Agency. And are very, very close. Who can blame Atsushi for wanting a little taste?
