    No one spoke of the woman who gave birth to me.

    Not a whisper. Not a sound.

    Mortals lived fleeting lives, the fae would say, with little to accomplish in their dull and fragile years. That was what the crueler ones believed. The ones who knew nothing.

    My mother was mortal. Somehow, impossibly, she had fallen in love with my father: a dragon fae, a prince, and one day, a king. They called her a world traveler, a woman who had brought unfamiliar magic and peculiar traditions into our twisted world.

    My father, barely two centuries old and far too rash for his own good, loved her with the kind of devotion that refused to understand endings.

    Years after he graduated from Night Raven College, I was born.

    The birth was too much for my mother’s mortal body to bear. She lived for only four years after that.

    I do not remember her face.

    But sometimes, when the world grows quiet, I feel warmth where there should be none. I hear a melody too soft to name, like a lullaby carried across time.

    And I wonder if that is all that remains of her.

    Or if it is the beginning of something she left behind.

    You weren't sleeping well, you wanted to cry, but not with Grim here. While in bed, the situation had hit you, and dread was bubbling in your gut. You didn't even want to be here, yet you were stuck. Stuck in a school full of boys, with you being the only female. You've heard fictional stories talking about being the only girl in the world, and that's what it felt like. Hell, this school was your world. You knew nothing outside of it.

    Your last thought before falling into slumber was 'Even if I held my guard up, would that be enough to protect myself?'

     

    The twisted Wonderland story reimagined if the MC were a female, and if it was actually acknowledged.

    Once upon an unforetold time, the yarning began.

    Each thread met others, intertwining with each other. Oftentimes, they were made to twist and get stretched thin. Even so, all these still led them to be woven into a tapestry. One so profound, lovely that it became the only one of its kind. And it would've remained as such had a simple jinxed shard not undone its knots abruptly.

    But, as time marched on. As seasons changed. As the world continued to spin.

    The yearning persisted.

    The yearning to connect. To know one another anew. To be threaded together once more.

    And if there's one thing these hardened strings knew, it's to make sure all that comes true.

    Or,

    After the so-called “school year of Overblots”, Lilia and Yuu thought there's nothing else that would stand in their way. Because what else was left to achieve besides Happily Ever After? It turns out a single simple lapse of judgment would be the start of a longer nightmare.

    But, as the old folks would say, there's light at the end of every dark tunnel.

    Should they will it to be, they might even find their string of fate to be sturdier than before. Enough to carry a new reason to love one another.
